Ask Beatrice

Our Product /Service

Ask Beatrice brings the data regarding the parking rules and regulations directly to their computer or smartphone. We not only show users where paid parking is possible, but also show the “hidden gems” where free parking is available for the times they want to park. Additionally, we give them access to the parking rules cities don’t show on the signs around town. Rules normally buried on city websites are delivered directly to their phone or web browser along with hints and tips.

Our Market

Ask Beatrice has different markets for its different products. The Parking WIDGET is our lead product and is targeted for merchants in urban locations where on-site parking is often unavailable. The total US market with these characteristics is estimated to have potential for as much as $1.4 Billion Dollars. Based on customer interviews, we expect around 15% (or over $224 Million annually) of this market would be subscribers of Ask Beatrice. Quickly following the Parking WIDGET would be our ParkingApp product for motorists with an additional $500 Million in potential customers.

Our Needs

We are looking for $400,000 in new funding to build the MVP of our ParkingApp product and scale our data collection toolsets.

Feedback We Seek (from the panelists)

- Impression of Market Assumptions

- Our business model

eMinute from May 2014

Our Product /Service

FitShares offers a mobile web-based platform to health clubs and other fitness organizations to provide powerful tools for workout management, fitness analytics, and automated social media messaging. FitShares provides these clubs within a powerful platform to support new member recruitment, upselling of services, and member retention.

Our Market

The $75 billion health club industry is experiencing rapid and dramatic change as there is a strong trend away from independent equipment-based workouts. Instead, people are opting for instructor-led group fitness workouts in the form of group exercise classes, boot camps, and functional training sessions. Along with this group fitness trend, the emergence of Crossfit and like-minded group training organizations have made extensive use of social media a critical element in club marketing. Social media has, in fact, become the de facto platform for fitness communications.

While the vast majority of fitness technologies continue to market directly to end-users, we see a significant opportunity in this trend toward ‘social fitness’ by offering a fitness management and social media messaging platform to fitness organizations in search of a competitive advantage in the face of this shifting landscape.

Our Needs

We are currently in private beta with a number of clubs and are seeking to expand our management team in preparation for go-to-market in the next few months.

FotoDish™ - “We let the food do the talking”

Good evening everyone, my name is Albert and my product is FotoDish, a mobile application that would change people’s dining information, options and experience.

The Need of Diners

There is no doubt that people enjoy eating out. However, we believe there isn’t sufficient information for people to make quick and smart dining decisions. We have hundreds of websites to search the restaurant name and schedule, but very few of them contain real food pictures and interesting stories behind the theme and specials.

The Need of Restaurants

At the same time, there is a need among restaurants to promote themselves to the users of mobile devices in the younger age demographics so important to survival and growth of many urban restaurants.

The FotoDish solution to those needs

So we decided to develop FotoDish, a mobile application that contains Professional Generated Contents concentrating on restaurant information and communication. We choose to present professional-grade real dish photos as our starting point to gain credits from App users and Restaurant owners. Our next step is to invite food lovers, bloggers and restaurant owners to share their information, experience and stories on FotoDish.

Market and Beta Testing

Our target market is restaurant mobile marketing. The Restaurant Mobile Marketing industry is a $5 billion market and growing. We are currently in beta testing with 178 restaurants in Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Brookline and adjoining communities. The reception to our mobile app among restaurants and users has been positive.

Revenue Roll-out

Within six months, we plan to begin to monetize our apps with Boston-area restaurants. Our projected revenue in the next 1-2 years is around $2 Million. And we believe we are right on the path of many giant company’s plan which gives us huge potentials become partners or acquisition target in the next 2-3 years.

Team

The greatest advantage of FotoDish is our Co-founder team. Three of us are software engineers that can internally handle all the development work from the back-end to the front-end, iOS and Android, which gives flexibility for the app development and also ensures the quality of the application. Other Co-founders have experience in business operations, marketing and sales, as we sell to the restaurant industry – giving FotoDish a strong, versatile and comprehensive team.

Financing

We just closed a $100,000 seed round of financing and will seek an additional $500,000 to fund our roll-out.

One Hen, Inc.

Our Product /Service

One Hen, Inc. is a non-profit organization that produces educational curriculum and resources for teaching elementary and middle school students social entrepreneurship via four core values: financial literacy; global awareness; personal initiative; and giving back. One Hen’s flagship One Hen Academy program offers educators a project-based enrichment curriculum that can be easily integrated into the traditional classroom structure or after-school programming. Through the Academy, students receive micro-loans to start an entrepreneurial venture, then identify needs in their communities, and ultimately donate the business profits to charities of their choice.

Our Market

Our target market is elementary and middle schools as well as afterschool program providers. We reach 2,000+ students a year with direct programming and hundreds of additional educators via our website. We are looking to capture more of the school and afterschool market through partnerships with organizations that can bring the One Hen program to scale, both nationally and globally.

Our Needs

· We seek advisors who have knowledge or connections to the EdTech community.

· We seek introductions to schools who may use our program.

· We seek pro bono tech support, designers, and developers.

Charged Concepts

Our Product /Service

The Charged Concepts’ solution is to provide a network of kiosks that vend mobile charger packs for rental or purchase, which grants customers the mobility and convenience needed to make that important phone call in private, and to then continue moving while their smartphone continues to charge in their pocket, purse, backpack, or brief case. Current mobile charger packs require planning ahead and generally a hefty upfront purchase fee. Charged Concepts is looking to provide customers with an easy point of entry when in dire need of a charge and a low cost opportunity to try the mobile charger pack before making a final decision on purchasing one. In short, Charged Concepts would like to become as ubiquitous to mobile charging as Redbox is to media rentals, providing customers with a convenient and mobility driven solution.

Our Market

Charged Concepts' target customers are heavy users of smartphones in busy urban environments, specifically: tourists, commuters, business persons, and those who actively use Social Media or location based services. Other target customers can be found at locations such as sporting events, entertainment venues, transit hubs, shopping centers, and amusement parks. In reality, our customer is any individual who is in immediate need of a charge to keep their smartphone powered and connected.

Our Needs

We are looking for an investor or investors who will not only provide us with the capital necessary to launch our proof of concept pilot but also someone who can mentor and guide us to help Charged Concepts redefine the mobile charging and power distribution market.

Feedback We Seek

We are open to any feedback that the panelists and anyone else is willing to provide. We are very open-minded to new ideas and thoughts. We would especially appreciated feedback on the style and content of our pitch, the business idea and model, as well as new and interesting ways to raise funds.

FLOELLE INC

Jerrold M. Shapiro, Ph.D., President

(508) 875-3993

[email protected]

Fifty two million women in Europe and the US involuntarily leak urine when they cough, laugh, sneeze or otherwise raise the pressure in their bellies. Floelle Inc. is developing a medical device to stop these leaks. Residing in the mid-urethra and replaced at her annual exam to maintain its antimicrobial properties, the device allows normal urination but automatically blocks urine flow during spikes of abdominal pressure. In addition to increasing the quality of their lives, the Floelle device saves incontinent women the cost and inconvenience of changing pads ten times a day, saves their insurance company the high cost of surgery, and provides new revenue to over a million general practitioners. Women who start using the device will continue using it for the rest of their lives, providing recurring revenue and a financial model of constant growth. Floelle Inc. has raised seed capital, filed the full patents in the US, Europe and Japan, has built its first prototype, is setting up its quality management system and regulatory strategy, has designed its clinical trial, and is now seeking $600,000 to conduct this clinical trial. Once cleared by the regulatory authorities, the device will be sold via strategic partners already in this space, and after five years Floelle Inc. will be acquired by one of them.

Patient Talkback

Our Product /Service

Patient Talkback is an easy to use and patient feedback platform for medical facilities. Through the use of mobile technology, medical facilities can easily get real time feedback about the quality of service in which their staff provides. To use the system, patients or their family members scan a QR code and an "app” appears on their mobile device , or they can use a device that the hospital provides. They can provide feedback on many topics including the food, the room environment, the staff and Etc. They can choose to report dissatisfaction on a variety of categories and items of interest. Our solutions allows patients and their families to give hospital feedback at any level of detail. Also, medical facilities can respond real time to the feedback they receive and receive valuable information to improve service to patients. In essence, this also can decrease formal complaints to the administration of a medical facility because the staff is better empowered to correct problems before they grow more serious.

Our Market

Our market is primarily medical facilities. We hope to monetize this market through a freemium model in which we provide a limited amount of data for free, and then facilities pay for higher levels of data and analytics. Our secondary market consists of consumer healthcare, pharmaceutical and food manufacturer advertisers. Our product is well-positioned to capture some of the $1.18 billion that healthcare advertisers spend each year on digital advertising.

Feedback We Seek (from the panelists of the day)

I am seeking feedback on my pitch, and I want to learn how well I have “sold” the Patient Talkback Service.

eMinutes from November 2013

EdTrips Overview

Our Product:

EdTrips is an online platform that makes it easy to manage educational travel, from K-12 to higher ed and beyond. Every day, hundreds of thousands of teachers still manage field trips entirely on paper. Students as young as six years old are carrying important forms and cash/checks back and forth from school in a backpack. It’s antiquated and not secure. More to the point, it’s a frustrating and time-consuming process for teachers and for busy parents. EdTrips is working to put the entire trip process online, from finding trip ideas to collect forms and payments, so every teacher can easily give their students the experiences that change their lives.

Our Market:

We address the $10 billion/year educational travel industry. Our target audience includes the teachers themselves, schools, school districts, universities, and community groups. We’re also for homeschooling groups, religious organizations, and adult education programs. We’re for anyone looking to organize travel geared towards learning, whether it’s around the corner or around the world.

Our Needs:

Right now, our number one need is funding, and to spread the word to teachers. We’re also very much looking to expand our partnerships with educational travel companies and venues, such as museums.

Feedback We Seek:

Intros and connections to schools and field trip venues

Tenacity Health

Our Product/Service

Self-insuring corporations spend $85 billion in unnecessary medical bills. The wellness 2.0 tech companies have thrown cute games, cumbersome customization and social networking at the problem, and made little progress, while irritating HR for eating up executive time and distracting workers. TenacityHealth is an easy to launch pay-for-performance program that requires little management from administrators and actually changes behavior. We use peer rewards and network science to launch interventions that reverberate in the workplace. Empirical science at MIT has already shown that our incentives structure is 4-times better than direct financial rewards. Study participants in a cold Boston December increased activity by 83 minutes per week.
Wealready had meetings with the right executives at 40 giant companies (Google, EMC, Staples, etc). Almost all have asked us to pitch it when ready. Several have volunteered to pay for pilots. The former CMO of Aetna and former EVP of United Technologies are among our investors. Our team is top notch—standouts in sales, product, software development, with experience at/with Fidelity National Financial, NASA, Amazon, Capital IQ, and with grad degrees from Harvard, MIT and Waterloo.

Our Market

Smartphone-owning, US-based employees at large self-insured corporations offer a $1.35B administrative fee market. Total corporate wellness market is at least $4B and growing. Affordable Healthcare Act directs more money for wellness incentives (up to $1,620 annually per employee).

Our Needs

We are looking for investor referrals and champions.
Feedback We Seek (from the panelists of the day)
- How to communicate differentiation from other companies in our field;
- What other business models we should consider;
- All other feedback and thoughts are welcome.

Classroom 21

Our Product /Service

Classroom21 is a web application that combines Customer Relationship Management tools and tactics with Big Data to create better learning experiences for students in grades 4-10. For decades, the major educational publishers have created “how-to” manuals that are increasingly ineffective. 68% of students are not math proficient when they graduate high school. Today’s information-savvy students want to know why math is relevant to them. To meet their needs, Classroom21 re-purposes the world’s numeric data and provides teachers with lessons that show students how math is used to convert real world, authentic numbers into relevant and useful information. The service: 1) provides a logical, contextual foundation for learning math, 2) is aligned with research on best-practices, and 3) enables teachers to create better math experiences for their students.

Our Market

The math education market is $2.6 Billion annually. Approximately 28% of mathematics class time is spent using digital tools and/or digital content. Our objective is to seize this block of time and transform it by providing schools with a better solution. Every year, roughly 37 million students enter college or the workforce below basic math proficiency levels. The market is ripe for a makeover and Classroom21 provides the service to bring real innovation to our nations schools.

Our Needs

We are seeking $150,000 in seed funding over six months to move Classroom21 from proof-of-principle prototype to a working prototype for 6th grade. Additional funds will be required.
Feedback We Seek (from the panelists of the day)
We are seeking leads to people and organizations that provide seed funding.

XCube Communications

Our Product /Service

Our StreamX product is an EMC, Google, Hadoop system on steroids for streaming data.

It creates a toolset for acquiring, storing, finding, mining, and effectively using Big Smart data. Our product can be seen as private cloud storage system with a customizable search engine and massively parallel execution engine. – We let our users create knowledge from their data and then use that to run analysis based the search results.

Our Market and there is a real race out there

Initial market is safety critical autonomous vehicles especially automotive and UAV. The active safety and autonomous vehicle market is exploding, but there are no good tools to help the companies effectively develop, test and certify their systems. There are about 200 new car models on the US market alone each need testing and certification. Our system will significantly reduce their 4-6 year development cycle and we can become the standard for certification.

Second market is the emerging large data analytics. Our system is the perfect tool for analyzing data that is not textual and which meaning need to be computed. Examples of those markets are pipeline inspection, city surveillance, coastal and border defense and more. Estimates of the BIG DATA market is in the $25B annual, we address a GREEN SPACE working with streaming measurement and video data.

Our Needs

We are looking for angel or venture investment of $500K to $1M to ramp up sales and solidify our leadership position in the automotive market as well as to develop the commercial and defense big data opportunities. The funds will be used to build the sales force, develop marketing and add full time QA to engineering. We will grow the business form current $3M to $40 within 3 years and become the market leader in our field.

Feedback We seek from the panelists of the day

We would like help with clarifying the product and markets to allow for a condensed explanation. Our market and product is hard to condense to a few sentences.

Ideas on fundraising and valuation of the company would be appreciated. We have an international business and a distributed team. Should we separate the offerings?

Patient Audit

Product /Service
Patient Audit is an easy to use mobile application for patients and their families as it can be used in a variety of languages. Our solution is accessed through a hospital bedside device or a patient's own handheld device. Patients can choose to report their concerns in a non-english format and the outcome data will be converted back into English for reporting. The patient can interact by selecting icon symbols, as well as in their own words in an open text field. This platform will provide qualitative, real-time patient specific information to Healthcare organizations who can take remedial action while the patient is still hospitalized. This information can be routed to the appropriate healthcare responder. For example, a hospital’s food department can respond to nutritional requests, while nurses can respond to issues associated with pain management so that patients can get what they need quickly.
Our Market
There are a total of 5,724 registered hospitals in the U.S with 924,333 staffed beds serving 36.5 million patients. The patient population admitted into the hospital will steadily increase as the baby boomers retire.

Apposk

Product /Service
Apposk is a company led by Joe Aleman that provides mobile application developers the ability to advertise their applications on a kiosk. Currently, it is a challenge to launch a mobile device application because it is easy to get lost in the 1,000,000 applications that are currently available. Apposk aims to solve that problem as we are providing advertising space at our kiosks for $50 per month at highly trafficked locations.
Our Market
Each mobile application will get a space on our board in which their logo will be displayed and cards will be available that have information about each app. The tablet that is available on our kiosk will provide more detailed information and will have demos so that consumers can try before they buy. The market is pretty much any app developer or company that would otherwise use the Android marketplace or the Apple app store!
Our Needs
We are seeking $500,000 in funding so that we can be successful in implementing these kiosks in many locations through the USA.
